Continuing education for appraisers is essential for maintaining licensure, improving skills, and delivering credible, compliant valuation reports. In May, Opteon took an important step forward by hosting its first internal continuing education pilot course designed specifically for our appraisers.

The three-hour course, titled FHA Appraisal Best Practices, brought together ten Illinois appraisers for an interactive learning experience led by Natalie Tucker, SVP of Learning and Development. The session combined direct instruction, group discussion, and case study activities to ensure participants felt comfortable applying learned concepts to real world scenarios.

The goal of the pilot was clear. Provide practical, relevant education that aligns with both regulatory requirements and the expectations of today’s fast-moving valuation environment.

Participants responded positively to the format and content. One attendee shared, “Good course, good content, and great instructor.” Another noted, “This was a good course. Engaging and well organized, especially compared to some other CE courses I have taken from other providers. It was a good amount of information effectively distributed over three hours.”

Upon completion, appraisers received continuing education credit along with a PACE Tag. PACE Tags are used internally at Opteon to prioritize assignment distribution to staff appraisers who have completed specific training requirements. With the addition of internal CE courses, Opteon is creating a stronger link between professional development and operational performance.

This program reflects a broader focus on consistency and quality across the organization. While many CE offerings focus primarily on meeting minimum state requirements, Opteon’s approach emphasizes application, alignment, and accountability. The coursework is designed to help appraisers navigate real challenges they face in the field, including FHA specific considerations and evolving compliance standards.

These internal courses also create a direct path for experienced appraisers to share what works in the field. That knowledge helps improve consistency, support newer team members, and strengthen overall report quality across the organization.

The success of the pilot course signals strong demand for this type of training. Internal surveys show clear interest from appraisers who want high quality learning opportunities that directly support their day-to-day work. Based on this feedback, we plan to expand our continuing education offerings to additional states and introduce new courses beginning in Fall 2026.

As the valuation industry continues to evolve, ongoing education will remain a key driver of accuracy, trust, and professional growth.

If you are looking to grow your career with a company that invests in learning and development, now is the time to take the next step.
